John Saxon, born Carmine Orrico on August 5, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York, was an American actor who appeared in over 200 film and television productions. He was best known for his roles in action films, thrillers and horror movies.

Saxon began his acting career in the 1950s and received his film debut in "It Should Happen to You" (1954). In the following decades he established himself as a versatile actor, convincing in both dramatic and action roles.

One of his most famous films was "Nightmare on Elm Street" (1984), in which he played the role of police commissioner Donald Thompson. This film brought him worldwide recognition and made him a popular face in the horror film genre. Saxon also appeared in the sequels "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" (1987) and "Wes Craven's New Nightmare" (1994).

In addition, Saxon appeared in several Bruce Lee films, including "Enter the Dragon" (1973) and "Fists of Fury" (1972), where he played the role of the antagonist. His martial arts knowledge, acquired in his youth, helped him deliver credible and impressive action sequences.
