Rolf Hoppe (1930-2018) was a German actor known for his diverse roles in film, television and theater. He was born on December 6, 1930 in Ellrich, Thuringia.
Hoppe initially trained as an electrician and worked in this profession for several years. However, in his youth he had already developed a great enthusiasm for the theater and performed as an amateur. At the age of 27, he finally decided to become an actor and began training at the Schauspielschule in Leipzig.
After completing his training, Hoppe had engagements at various theaters, including Dresden, Leipzig and Berlin. At the same time, he appeared in numerous film and television productions, including the DEFA films "The Legend of Paul and Paula" (1973) and "The Adventures of Werner Holt" (1965).
From the 1990s, Hoppe was also active internationally, appearing in films such as "Der Unhold" (1996) by Volker Schlöndorff and "Der Name der Rose" (1986) by Jean-Jacques Annaud. One of his best-known roles was as the king in the film "Momo" (1986), based on the book by Michael Ende.
Hoppe received numerous awards for his acting achievements, including the National Award of the GDR, the Bavarian Film Award and the Film Award of the City of Hof.
Rolf Hoppe passed away in Dresden on November 14, 2018, at the age of 87.
