"American Psycho" is a psychological thriller from 2000, based on the novel of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis. Set in 1980s New York, the film follows the life of successful banker Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale), who leads a secret double life as a serial killer.
Bateman is an attractive, wealthy and vain man who spends his days getting ahead in his banking career and enjoying his wealth. But behind the facade of a successful businessman lies a dark personality and uncontrolled violence. Bateman starts brutally murdering people around him, including homeless people, prostitutes and colleagues.
The plot of the film shows Bateman's inner conflict as he tries to hide his double life and maintain his mental instability. Bateman also develops an obsession with one of his colleagues, Evelyn (Reese Witherspoon), and tries to build a relationship with her while plotting more murders.
