The Great Gatsby * Quotes
Release date: 05/10/2013
"The Great Gatsby" (2013) by director Baz Luhrmann tells the story of the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), who lives in New York in the 1920s. The film is based on the 1925 novel of the same name by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Gatsby is known for the opulent parties he holds at his lavish mansion. But behind the facade of the wealthy businessman lies an unfulfilled longing for his childhood sweetheart Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan), who is now married to the rich Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton). When Gatsby sees Daisy again, he tries everything to rekindle their love, also drawing Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), his neighbor and narrator of the story, into his intrigues.
Visually stunningly staged and featuring a strong soundtrack, "The Great Gatsby" captures the glamorous and hedonistic atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties. The actors are convincing in their performances, especially DiCaprio as the charismatic Gatsby. The story is a classic tragedy about lost love and the impossibility of regaining the past.
Critics, however, criticized the film for relying too much on visual effects and aesthetic perfection, while lacking the emotional depth of the novel. Nevertheless, "The Great Gatsby" remains a film worth seeing for fans of love stories and historical films.

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but that's no matter, tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther... and one fine morning... so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."

"In my younger and more vulnerable years, my father gave me some advice: 'Always try to see the best in people', he would say. As a consequence, I'm inclined to reserve all judgements. But even I have a limit."
