"Wasabi" is a 2001 action comedy directed by Luc Besson. It stars Jean Reno as former secret agent Hubert Fiorentini, who returns to Tokyo after many years in Paris to investigate the death of his former lover and the existence of their shared daughter.
Once in Tokyo, Fiorentini must quickly adapt to Japanese culture and lifestyle as he battles yakuza gangsters and corrupt police officers who stand in the way of his investigation. He is assisted by a young Japanese woman, Yumi Yoshimido (played by Ry?ko Hirosue), who is also involved in the case.
During his investigation, Fiorentini stumbles upon a criminal plan that puts him and Yumi in mortal danger. Using his unusual methods and martial prowess, he takes up the fight against the bad guys, risking everything to uncover the truth and clean up his past.
In addition to Jean Reno and Ry?ko Hirosue, the film's cast also includes Michel Muller, Carole Bouquet and Ludovic Berthillot. The camera work was done by Thierry Arbogast. "Wasabi" is a humorous and action-packed homage to Japanese pop culture and the films of Luc Besson. The film received mixed reviews, but managed to be an overall success with audiences.
