Otto Walkes is a German comedian, actor, director and voice actor. He was born on June 22, 1948 in Emden.
Walkes studied German, English and education in Münster in the 1960s. In 1969, he dropped out of his studies and began performing as a musician and entertainer. In the 1970s, he became known for appearances on the NDR program "Der Große Preis" and in the TV movie "Ottifanten." His artificial character Ottifant, a small elephant with a trunk and pointed cap, became Walkes' trademark.
Numerous television appearances and films followed in the 1980s, with Walkes acting and directing. His best-known films include "Otto - Der Film" (1985), "Otto - Der neue Film" (1987) and "Otto - Der Außerfriesische" (1989).
Walkes is also a voice actor and lent his voice to the donkey in "Shrek" (2001) and the lemming in "Ice Age" (2002), among others.
Over the course of his career, Walkes has received numerous awards, including the Bambi, the German Comedy Award and the Honorary Award of the German Television Award.
Walkes has also been active as a musician since the 1980s and has released several albums, including "Otto's Sammelsurium" (1983) and "Erdbeermund" (1994).
