Mickey Rourke (born September 16, 1952) is an American actor, screenwriter, and former boxer. He was born in Schenectady, New York, and grew up in Miami, Florida. Rourke studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York City and made his film debut in 1979 in the movie "1941".

Rourke gained recognition for his performances in the films "Diner" (1982) and "Rumble Fish" (1983), both directed by Francis Ford Coppola. He also starred in the erotic drama "9½ Weeks" (1986) alongside Kim Basinger, and the action movie "Angel Heart" (1987) opposite Robert De Niro.

After a string of successful films in the 1980s, Rourke's career stalled in the 1990s due to personal and professional issues. He returned to acting in the late 2000s and received critical acclaim for his role in the 2008 movie "The Wrestler," which earned him a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

Since then, Rourke has appeared in several films, including "Iron Man 2" (2010), "The Expendables" (2010), and "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" (2014). He has also had a successful career in boxing, competing professionally as a welterweight in the 1990s.
