Denzel Washington is an American actor, director, and producer. He was born on December 28, 1954, in Mount Vernon, New York. Washington's parents were a Pentecostal minister and a beautician. He attended Fordham University, where he graduated with a degree in Drama and Journalism.

Washington's first major acting role was in the television series "St. Elsewhere" in the 1980s. He then made his film debut in the comedy "Carbon Copy" (1981). He gained critical acclaim for his role in the film "Cry Freedom" (1987) and won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in "Glory" (1989).

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Washington continued to establish himself as one of Hollywood's leading actors. He starred in a number of box office hits, including "Malcolm X" (1992), "The Hurricane" (1999), and "Training Day" (2001), for which he won his second Academy Award for Best Actor.
