Sigourney Weaver, born Susan Alexandra Weaver on October 8, 1949 in New York City, is an American actress known for her iconic roles in science fiction films.

Weaver began her acting career in the theater in the 1970s before making her breakthrough on the big screen. Her most famous role is that of Ellen Ripley in the science fiction film series "Alien" (1979-1997). Her powerful portrayal of a courageous and independent space traveler made her one of the most outstanding action heroines in film history. She received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her role in "Aliens" (1986).
