Racin' in the Street * Quotes
Runtime: 91 min
"Manta, Manta" is a German film comedy from 1991 and is still considered a cult movie. The plot revolves around a group of young people from the Ruhr region who share a love of fast cars and illegal street racing.
At the center is the likeable Bertie, played by Til Schweiger, who gets into a fight with the rich racing driver Gerd (Rufus Beck) in order to win the heart of his girlfriend Uschi (Nadja Naidenow).
The film humorously shows the different characters of the main characters, their relationships to each other and their preferences for fast cars. In the process, there are numerous funny situations and dialogues that make the viewer laugh again and again.
Car fans will be thrilled by the numerous detailed shots of the fast and souped-up vehicles. But also the love story between Bertie and Uschi is skillfully staged and gives the film a romantic touch.
"Manta, Manta" still captivates with its charming and light-hearted character and conveys a nostalgic feeling of the 90s. The soundtrack with well-known pop songs of the time rounds off the overall experience and makes the film a true cult classic of German film history.
