Eddie Murphy is an American actor, comedian, singer and director. He was born on April 3, 1961 in Brooklyn, New York.
Murphy began his career as a stand-up comedian in the early 1980s and quickly became one of the most famous and influential comedians of his time. He had his first stint on television as part of the cast of "Saturday Night Live," where he appeared regularly in the early 1980s, creating numerous characters, including the legendary Gumby.
As an actor, Murphy had his breakthrough in 1983 with the film "48 Hours," in which he starred alongside Nick Nolte. He also starred in the successful comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" and its sequels "Beverly Hills Cop II" and "Beverly Hills Cop III."
Murphy has starred in many successful films, including "Coming to America," "The Nutty Professor," "Doctor Dolittle" and "Dreamgirls." He has also worked as a director, directing such films as "Harlem Nights" and "The Adventures of Pluto Nash."
For his work as an actor and comedian, Murphy has received numerous awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe and an Emmy. He has also been inducted into the Comedy Hall of Fame.
